FUNDECYT-PCTEX highlights in Brussels the CSR practices in Extremadura´s companies

The Foundation participates, under DESUR project, with European policy makers in a workshop on Eco-innovation, that aims to expedite the transfer between European regions of the knowledge generated in projects of interregional cooperation , known as 'Interreg IVC' The event was held under the Capitalization Program of Interreg IVC projects, a European territorial cooperation program aimed at helping regions to work together and share their knowledge and experience. Thus, the thematic workshop on Eco- innovation aims to encourage interaction and collaboration among other European projects that are currently underway. During the meeting, the projects related to innovation and sustainability were approached , as DESUR, a consortium of seven countries leaded by FUNDECYT–PCTEX, that works on improving policies, instruments and methodologies to promote responsible innovation in SMEs, making progresses on the path to sustainable growth. In this sense, the results obtained and the good practices identified in regional companies that have incorporated to their policies sustainable and environmentally responsible activity, were announced. The workshop also brought together project coordinators at European level, and served to present and validate the results of the first year funded Interreg IVC projects, aiming to focus on results and make them available to other European regions. These results can be translated into guidelines and manuals that serve as a roadmap for planning and implementing strategic plans. ENVIRONMENT , ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CSR Eco- innovation term refers to processes and products that have less impact or even that positively impact the environment. From an economic point of view, the eco- innovation looks for the companies to be efficient and make proper use of natural resources, all aimed at improving global sustainability. Other matters discussed at the workshop were to exchange results with other political actors on innovative solutions applied to energy efficiency and environmental protection, and the role of eco- innovation in cohesion policies and planning Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS3 Process). Also, the agenda included the outstanding participation of Philippe Martin , CEO of Environment, Eco- innovation and Finance of the European Commission, who presented the plan of action on Eco- innovation in Europe 2020 ' Framework Programme '. Extremadura participation in this event has allowed to value at European level the policies carried out by the Public Administration and the measures taken by Extremadura companies in Corporate Social Responsibility, making them transferable to other European regions.
